Default Tucked tail--wagging it? Should I be worried?

Our 3 year old boer doe who I would consider to be one of my most hardy goats has her tail tucked down, tight, to her behind today. She is wagging it back and forth constantly.

Is she in heat?

Is she sick?? She looks bright; eats fine and is out grazing at the moment.

All of mine usually have their tails up all the time-so this is def. out of the ordinary. I can try to take her temp later-but since she is not acting sickly so temping her will be a 2 person job.

thoughts?

May be gnats or bugs buzzing around her...

Could be heat yes....is she messy back there?

If she is eating OK...acting normal.. then ...she is fine....

Mine do that at times as well.....

If she acts off ...get a temp on her....

no bugs-does not appear to have any discharge.

I will pull her in the barn tonight before we feed and give her the "once over" Thank you for the info and it makes me feel better that sometimes this can be normal.

I am hoping she is just in heat. Everytime I peek out at her she is participating in the herd activites just tail down and wagging back and forth-amazing how fast she is wagging it?

I always thought "flagging" of the tail was with the tail up in the air?

Tail wagging usually means a heat cycle. If she has discharge that may be why she is holding her tail down. Easiest way to tell would be to walk her near a buck! Also, what's the temperature outside? Mine will do this when it's windy and/or cold out too.

we got her temp last night--normal at 102. I did notice her vulva was very swollen and "poochy" so I guess she is in heat? Her tail also came up again later yesterday afternoon so I am gonna consider her "all good" for now thanks for the help!
