Default Sugar beets

Are raw sugar beets good to give goats? I've done some research but haven't found anything really concrete on it. Thanks so much!

I have wondered this same question. I gave my goats some left over beet juice thinking it would be really good for them and also gave them the peelings. After, I gave it to them, I looked it up on the comp. to see what health advantages it would give them. To my horror, I read beets can kill goats. I was in a bit of a panic and all I could do was wait it out. They did fine, I never noticed any adverse reactions. So I don't know if they just didn't get enough to cause problems or if maybe I just read some bad information. I am curious to know if someone can answer this question.

Well, I give my goats Beet tops when we have to many.

I would guess they are safe in moderation, after that is how Beet Pulp is made.

Fiasco Farm is usually said to have the most comprehensive good/bad plant list. http://fiascofarm.com/goats/poisonousplants.htm It shows beets (top and root) on the edible list, though I'm not sure if "sugar beets" are different than regular beets?? Also... a few things on their list dont make sense to me (rhubarb leaves on both edible and poisonous list, same with lilac I think - just a few typos or duplicates that have never been cleaned up - but makes me leary to trust what I read). So... take it as you will. I've fed my goats beet tops, but they aren't very interested. I know people use beet pulp as a feed supplement... so I'd be surprised if fresh beets werent ok. But I'm fairly new, and definitely still learning.

I believe I would be careful about how much I fed. Since sugar beets tend to be on the starchy side, I would be concerned about acidosis.
