Default Will Kid Nurse If I Put Milker In With Her??

I have 4 two month old kids in one pen and 3 does I am milking out every day in another pen. The kids were separated at birth so they have never nursed off of the doe, only from a bottle. I was thinking of selling 3 of the 4 kids and 2 of the 3 milkers so that I would have one kid and one milker. My question is this: I know it depends on the demeanor of each individual goat, but would it be unwise to put a milker with a two month old kid who is just about to be weaned? I was thinking since the kid has never ever nursed off of another goat, that it is unlikely to nurse if put together with a milker....but I dunno....I don't have any experience trying it. I want to keep one goat so we still have milk, but want to have another goat to keep her company, hence my keeping one milker and one kid. I'm concerned 1) the milker might bully the kid, and 2) like I said that the kid would nurse off the milker. Does putting the two together sound stupid, or do you all think it would work just fine??

If I were you I'd try it first. You might have a milker prone to adopting kids and you might have another who won't let one near her. You should be able to try different combinations until you get one that works, but I'd keep two milkers (less work) and just dry one off, then you can breed them on alternating years for less gaps in your milk and to give a doe a year off from kidding every other year.

My two bottle babies were just weaned off the bottle and put in with the doe who just kidded to keep the kids company when she is away from them (they get her milk half the time, I get her milk the other half, lol) and neither of the bottle babies have ever tried to nurse her, even while watching her own kids nurse. In fact they seem completely baffled by what those other goats are going, lol.

Honestly I dont think the kid will even try. I bought a milker and tried to get a 3 week old bottle baby to nurse her and I couldnt even get the little suckers mouth open, I was mom. I would still give it a shot, what the worse to happen you waist 5 min. of your time.

I would go ahead and try it. Most does won't let just any kid nurse off of them.

Thanks for the input. Think I'll go ahead and make that the plan. Thanks.
