The Fainting goats were first discovered in Marshall County Tennessee in the 1880's. They have a condition called myotonia that makes them appear to faint. They don't really faint. They are not in any pain. The condition occurs when they are startled and only last a few seconds. It is a muscular reaction. These same goats often get stiff and drag their legs without falling down. They go by many other names including: stiff legged, scared, nervous, and Tennessee goats. They are an easy to care for goat that has a laid back personality. They don'tclimb like most other goats. They are a very hardy goat. They are good foragers too.
