Lay a warm tea bag over both eyes for a couple minutes. That will help loosen everything so you can clean them out. Then I would put a drop of LA-200 in both eyes or terimycin(sp) eye ointment.

Tea bags will help draw any nasty gunk out of the eye too. I can't remember exactly how or why lol. But they work wonders.

Yes, LA-200 injectable, but don't inject it in his eyes. Take the needle off and just put a drop in both eyes. If they are really bad then I do give a SQ injection of it too.

This might sound like a really stupid question but I want to do it right, you do mean warm wet tea bags right, Thanks so much

Check the eye lid very closely to see if its turned inward. We had a baby with entropic eyelid and it looked like she had a perpetual cold in her eye with lots of matting. We used terramycin eye ointment and a bit of massage to get it to turn since it wasn't real bad.

I agree with the others...

check out the eyes well...check for.. inverting , scratches or any thing that may be in there... that doesn't belong.....I would flush the eyes with bottled water...put some water in a syringe and gently flush the eyes with water.... this is just in case there might be dirt or something in there.... helping to irritate the eyes...then put the drops of LA 200 or whatever you want to use.....in the eye and see if there is any improvement by the next day.... if the eyes are gunky again ...repeat..

5 cc is way too much for a 3 day old Nigi baby....the dose is 1cc per 40# he should have gotten less than 1/2 a cc. Don't inject anymore into him, even if using the every other day useage the doseage is 1cc per 22#. Be sure he is nursing well and is active, I honestly don't know what you should look for as far as reaction to overdose. Hope he does well for you.

Thank goodness it was a typo!! I hope he is feeling better soon!
Another thing, I had this happen here to a doeling last year...she was about a week old and I noticed runny eyes, never crusty, just running. I did the whole "home" treatment...started with Benadryl in case it was an allergy, went to Terramycin eye ointment when the Ben didn't work....after 10 days, I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with blocked tear ducts, it happens, and when theres no place for the natural moisture of the eye to go, it will run down the face. My vet said that a minor surgery would fix it at the time but at the age of the doeling was much too risky and that she would likely out grow it as they cleared on their own.
Keeping the area clean with a mild saline will help with the crustiness.
