A breed of goat which originated in southern Italy, the Jonica was originally crossbred with native varities in the Italian Province of Taranto and the Maltese breed. They come in white or brown coats. This goat is of medium to large build. The typical adult males weigh approximately at 70 kg, while the females at 50 kg. They are usually bred for milk production and the Jonica gives around an annual milk yield of 350 - 400 litres.
