The Laoshan can be found in Shandong, China. It was actually developed from another Saanen breed. It was originally to Loushan by preachers in Germany during the early 1900s. They were used for cross breeding with local does in Shandong from 1919. Several years after, importations of these goats were made.

Laoshan goats are typically bred for their milk. They are developed with selective breeding for the past 70 years. Actually, they look similar to purebred Saanen in appearance and milk production. They are usually found in white or cream. The does weigh around 150 lbs or more. The bucks weigh over 200 lbs.
