As the name suggests, the Maltese goat came from the island of Malta. Nowadays, they can be found in many other Mediterranean countries as well. The Maltese goat is actually used for selective breeding in Sicily and several locations in Southern Italy. They mostly bred for milk production and are able to produce large quantities of milk. They average around 500 to 600 kg of milk in a span of 270√,,"300 days. The Maltese goats predominantly have white coats but come with black head and ears. They also have a thick white stripe on the middle of the face.
