Has anyone had any experience with a doe that had Listeriosis (neurological variant) having a successful pregnancy after recovering? Our buck broke through 3 fences (we ending up selling him because he could not be contained) last fall and bred a doe that we retired due to Listeriosis. We didn't think she was pregnant, but low and behold we're approaching 145 days and she's getting an udder...
I'm mainly asking to prepare myself to cull the kid if odds are not in it's favor.
Was the doe prone to having listeriosis? Did she end up with neurological damage due to a bout with it?
Damage done by listeriosis can be seriously debilitating to the doe, and a past infection might compromise a doe's ability to carry a pregnancy or raise her babies; and I can even see how neurological damage could possibly (I don't think likely, but possibly) impede her labor; but I don't think the doe's struggle with listeria would compromise the kids themselves, if they were born strong enough to survive. Again, the only reason I'd think they'd possibly be born weak is because of her system potentially being weak or not having a lot of "extra" resources for the babies, or having some muscle coordination issue that might slow down labor.
What has your mineral regimen been for her?
