They said there would most likely be a spike of Covid in the fall. Kids going back to school, mostly college age, who gather in groups, don't wear a mask and party.the weather is cooler in northern areas, so more people are staying inside. States lifted restrictions, so people went back to work, went out to eat, went to bars etc, and didn't do the protection rigmarole. Hospitals started letting a limited number of visitors in to visit patients, as did nursing homes. I work in a hospital and the number of cases serious enough to be hospitalized is climbing rapidly. I work security, and we are the "keepers of the morgue" among other things. At least once a shift I am bringing a Covid patient who passed down to the morgue. That's not counting those who either have it and are not seriously sick, or are infected but have no symptoms. Two guys in my department had it last month and passed it along to their family. They said they have never been sicker, or felt worse, in their entire lives. Will I get the vaccine? NO! Most people I work with decided not to get the flu vaccine this year because we have to wear a mask anyway, and up til now, if you opted out of the flu shot you had to wear a mask all season. Maine is being hammered with it right now (CV19, not the flu. The flu hasn't hit us yet) so by CDC protocol, healthcare workers have to wear a mask and a face shield or goggles and they have to be provided by the employer, who is limited in what type they can purchase. We look like aliens. The mask is destroying my already compromised lungs ("Farmers Lung"), so I only wear it when I am in close proximity to other people. The goggles I only wear when I am dealing with patients or visitors. To do that, I have to take my prescription glasses off and put the goggles on, they won't fit over the glasses. These goggles look like safety glasses, but have foam around the edges for a sealed fit. (They don't seal, however, there are several gaps)
Mail usually gets later this time of year. My mail time changes when we get new drivers or they change the routes. I used to get it between 1100-1300, not it's around 1600-1700. New mail carrier.
Fed Ex, UPS etc have always just dumped my packages wherever they want. I have found them on my front steps (we never use the front walkway and it's blocked off!), in the bed of my pick up, on the hood of my car, in front of the chicken pens, on the milk stand in the barn (before the neighbor kid burned it down), stuffed in my mail box, wherever they think they can. Totally like a scavenger hunt.
Or....the aliens are messing with us.
