Urinary Calculi

Hi we have a wether that was born on March 7, 2020. He seems to have Urinary Calculi. We snipped off the pizzle last night and it had one bigger stone that was about 1/4" long and a couple more that were about the size of kosher salt. He still has not peed. And also doesn't seem to be drinking. I have been giving him Banamine and the fruit fresh since it is the weekend and I can't get ammonium chloride. He is not crying anymore and I am not sure what to do next. He is very alert and doesn't appear to be in any pain. We don't have good large animal vets around here so we are kinda on our own. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We also read on backyard herds forum to give Acepromazine and dexamethasone. We just gave him the Dex but haven't been able to get the Acepromazine yet.

Also just saw to give apple cider vinegar so I am going to try that next..... I am up for anything that won't make matters worse at this point but my husband has to go out of town tomorrow and I work overnight for the next three nights so I was hoping to see some signs of improvement before I have to leave tomorrow.

Just post here a third time and you should be fine to post links. ;)

Sorry your boy is going through this, UC sure is a difficult thing to deal with. I'll call our resident UC expert, @NigerianDwarfOwner707 she's VERY knowledgeable on the subject. I'm sure she'll have advice for you.

MellonFriend,
Thank you so much for the help. We lost one at the beginning of the year from the same thing. The two that we had wethered early because they were just really annoying all of the girls with their boy antics are the ones that have had the problem. Lesson learned there. Still not sure why the vet did not recommend waiting or even tell us that it could be a potential problem.

I've known about this for awhile now, I don't breed but RESCUED a male with one testicle, got six little beauties and I adore them UNFORTUNATELY I lost one of my triplets Because we bought all our winter hat last year COME TO FIND OUT THE GUY HAD TONS OF BERRIES, LEAVES AND STEMS OF HORSE NETTLE!I did everything possible to get her through it but the toxins overwhelmed her little body but I had four Beautiful little boys, Before fixing them I studied and found that it's much better to wait until they're urethra is full grown to help in case, unfortunately my first time being a momma to baby goats I went along with THE BANDING and the second it started I wanted TO STOP! I didn't realize that it was that painful until the bands were put on! Each one fell down crying but the bands would have hurt my little guys because it was tight, Tiny Tim was still too young so I had my vet put him out for a few minutes and off the testicles went,. What I wanted to ask is have you fed your wether's grain? Usually that causes urinary calculi, or it could be that he was fixed MUCH too young. Praise God I haven't had to deal with that. I see lots of people with goats who can't find a good farm vet! Wow, here in Rhode Island and Connecticut we have one of the BEST GOAT VETS EVER! She literally saved my two year old after he was COMPLETELY MAULED BY A BEAR I was determined to nurture him back to life! I watched him come into the world and I wasn't about to watch him LEAVE this world. Cara told us after we knew he was going to LIVE THROUGH THE HORRIFIC INJURIES Cara told me that she never expected him to even live through the sewing up. She now calls him her little miracle Because she told me never has she seen a goat that bad live! I have never talked to you but make sure you don't give your fixed males any grain I pray your baby will get through this awful illness ❣

If hes still not peeing after snipping him..he needs a vet asap.. there is a curve in the urethra (the sigmoid flexure) (sp) that if stones get trapped there is near impossible to pee out. His bladder will get too full and burst. Any vet can at least help him get through this. Don't give both Dex and banamine together..choose one. Add Vit C and keep doing fruit fresh until you can get him to a vet.

Best wishes

How is your boy just wondering if you ever do give him grain? Since he's a wether I wouldn't give him grain.. and I Also hear it's about the portion of carbs and I believe phosphate or protein. People who have had these animals all they're lives can figure out the levels but I never could it just went over my head. I'm wondering if anyone could take a look at what I asked the other day about my nubian Onxy with the enlarged heart I could really use advise
