Hello all,
Yesterday my nigies got into the chicken grain, I’m not sure how long for but it seems that one doe had eaten particularly more than the others and isn’t doing so well.
So she has the classic signs of bloat (not eating, laying down, distended rumen, salivating) normally I put the afflicted goats off feed if they have eaten a good amount and they do just fine but she is distinctively worse because she seems a lot more inactive and has difficulty breathing.
I administered 2 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda orally a few hours ago along with a single dose of bloat medication but nothing seems to have changed. I also had left a 16mm needle in her and that helped with the gas but now it just seems it’s just liquid.
What should I do? Should I give her milk of magnesia? Should I try walking her around/massaging her?

Walking can help. Do you have (or can you get) activated charcoal? It helps prevent them from absorbing the toxins from all that grain. If not, I believe milk of magnesia might do some good. I recommend a shot of Vitamin B complex ASAP. Another thing you can try is to tube some oil down her (make sure it's in the stomach, not the lungs). The oil can help move things along. I hope she does alright!

Walk her alot..massage and bounce her belly..repeat MOM in 6 hours if not improved. 15 cc per 60 pounds.

Best wishes

Hey guys,
Sadly she just passed. ;( I’ll probably cut her open just to see what exactly was going on, but thanks for all of your guy’s advice. Lesson learned I’ll have to put better locks on the grain cans, I’ve just never had a case of bloat this bad before.
