Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have a 2 1/2 month old buckling. He is a Nigerian Dwarf/Nubian mix. I want to use the Emasculation method for castration. I called the vets, and it cost me $300.00 for this procedure. We live in Camp Verde, Arizona. Do you know anyone who will castrate using this...

I castrated a 13 week old kid today. I suppose I got ahold of a bleeder because it won’t stop bleeding. I’ve held pressure for 30 minutes and it’s still bleeding when I take the towel off. Should I tie it off and see if that will resolve the bleeding? Is there a way to cauterize the bleeder?

As some of you know, I had some difficulties with my wether and knowing if he was actually a wether or not. Well, today I found out! He is 100%, absolutely, positively... a Buck. He has peed in his mouth at least 5 times today, and is chasing around our new buck and flapping his tongue and lips...

Just got myself a buckling to eventually sire my herd, and he’s the cutest thing. Unfortunately I am clueless when it comes to what my herd needs to improve on since I’m only just starting out, but he comes from a good herd, good lines and his dam has a decent udder for a FF. My question is, is...

Have a buckling that's about 6 weeks old, growing fast and is thriving well. We have someone coming to get him at the end of the month but wanted him banded. We went ahead and did the job today, but being our first time, I'm very paranoid about it, and I'm worried we might have banded a bit too...

I have a buckling that just underwent an abdominal hernia repair surgery. It was a large hernia that caused him to severely bloat, so I rushed him to the vet today. He was in really rough shape when I got there. the surgery went great, and they got the hernia repaired. He’s woken up and he...

Is there any significant difference in how interstitial pneumonia presents in a one-month-old kid? Other than dosage, is there a differential in how to treat?

I am working with a 27 day old Nigerian Dwarf kid. He is one of four, all healthy at birth. The short version is this: He has been sick for ten days. 4 different antibiotics have been tried at this point, none have managed symptoms for longer than a day (two days TOPS). Symptoms include: high...

Okay forgive me if this is long but I want to be detailed so I can best manage my situation. I have a backyard mini farm with a fenced in acre. 2 Nigerian dwarf does that are 2 years. 4 ducks. 3 chickens. 5 barn cats. We just brought home a new 4 week old buckling from a farm 2 hours away. I...

Our first buckling was born on 3/20/2020 and mom was great with him until the 28th. She runs from him now and won't let him nurse. Her sister gave birth on the 28th, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. The does' utter is not as full and her nipples look deflated for lack of a...

My young buckling(5 months) has been having Diarrhea for the past 5 days now. I thought he was scouring but even after giving him just hay and mineral, it hasn't changed. Its like a pudding consistency. I've only had Kikos for about 2 1/2years now. Never had an issue with Coccidiosis but now I...

I have not sold my buckling yet and he is 2mos old. I am afraid he is 'chasing' his aunts! When can I move him into a pen with his father, and how? should I do it slowly, like have them spend a day together. My buck has a wether friend and is housed away from my girls. Thanks

Seriously, I understand all the arguments for disbudding goats. We show for ADGA and 4-H, so we can't even opt out if we want to. And I really DO like owning goats without horns. Still. I hate, Hate, HATE disbudding them. HATE! LOATHE! DESPISE! As many of you know, we had 8 kids born as...

So we have a buckling that is about 8 weeks old. He is with the rest of the herd. 4 nannies, and another 8-week old doeling. The doeling is very dominated and was always mounting him, quite comical. I did see him yesterday trying to mount his mother, not near tall enough, and it I think he was...

Hi. I'm very new to goats, I've had a wether and pregnant doe only three months. I will be keeping any girls she has and purchasing another doeling in the spring to quickly have my whole herd of does. My original plan was to have only 3-4 does to provide my family all our dairy needs. As far...
