I am a new goat owner and currently have 2 bucks and 2 does, all one year old Nubians raised as bottle babies. We have been running them all together successfully with buck aprons without any accidents or issues up until a couple of weeks ago. One of our bucks has become increasingly aggressive...

Hi everyone, We got our nigerian dwarfs back in the beginning of October. Both males, 3 months old at the time, were clamped before we left the property. After a month, I noticed one testicle was still "hanging around" so we bought our own burdizzo clamp and redid the failed side. 3 weeks...

Hi y'all! I would like completely honest opinions on these two castration methods...all the pros and cons. I heard that banding can lead to tetanus, but it is sure to work, but I also heard that the burdizzo was less painful, but isn't guaranteed to work the first time. What are y'all's...

Hello everyone, I've recently gotten a very sweet, nearly 2 1/2 month old buckling that I plan to train as a pack goat. I would like to get him castrated at 4 months so as not to stunt his growth. He is currently living as part of a mixed herd here on our farm and we'd rather not have any...

This is my goat Nicholas. He is 5.5 months old with some congenital issues (deformed face, one eye, enlarged heart with murmur). He is in desperate need of castration as of last week. I’m very worried with his heart. He does act very normal and runs around full speed all day chasing my alpaca...

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have a 2 1/2 month old buckling. He is a Nigerian Dwarf/Nubian mix. I want to use the Emasculation method for castration. I called the vets, and it cost me $300.00 for this procedure. We live in Camp Verde, Arizona. Do you know anyone who will castrate using this...

I castrated a 13 week old kid today. I suppose I got ahold of a bleeder because it won’t stop bleeding. I’ve held pressure for 30 minutes and it’s still bleeding when I take the towel off. Should I tie it off and see if that will resolve the bleeding? Is there a way to cauterize the bleeder?

Hello all! I'm new to goats, I took my 11 week old nigerian dwarf to the vet to be castrated today. They did the cutting method but the doc said I didn't need any pain meds or antibiotics for it. I wouldn't bother, but he seems very painful. He just stands in the same spot and doesn't move at...

Hey everybody, new goat mom here and somewhat clueless. I got a couple of goats a few weeks ago, one 12 week old hermaphroditic female and a 12 month old wether (didn't want to breed). Now the little lady seems to have grown testicles and is bumping and rubbing her head against stuff to the...

I attached three pictures of my pygmy goat's scrotum. I banded him at 8 weeks, which was 10 days ago. I used the TSC bander with the green bands. When I banded him I was sure I had both testees. I put off checking his progress until today because he seemed to be getting around okay and I...

We just had two of our goats castrated. They had to be put under with anesthesia and thankfully both of them made it through the surgery. One goat is back to his normal self. The other is seeming depressed. He was a super friendly and hungry goat prior to the surgery, these days he just wants...

So my two Nigerian Dwarfs bucklings have not been given any CD/T shots and I will be banding them today. I read that they need to be given Tetanus anti-toxin to prevent Tetanus, but I have no idea on the dosage since they are smaller goats and only 11 weeks old. I also read that the anti-toxin...

We're new to goats (6 weeks since we bought our first 4 goats), and this seems like a potentially bad problem. One of the boys, 12 weeks old now (born April 21) has torn the sac of his testicles away from his body. Pictures are on Google Drive at https://goo.gl/VKnYu9 . An elastrator band was...

So it's my first time banding goats, and after doing countless amount of research, I have no idea if I should band them or if it's too late for banding. I recieved them at 8 weeks old, and I've finally got them settled in and healthy after a battle with Coccidia. I've seen people say so many...

I have a buckling who he's going to his new home this weekend. the buyer had wanted him banded over burdizzo because she says for the 4h Farm Show she does her show weather's can't have a sign of a scrotal sac. I told her that the only method of castration I use is burdizzo, but I'd be happy to...

We recently learned that banding bucklings is more likely to cause stones.(we have experienced this with many wethers and never known why they got them) We are interested in using a burdizzo but when we look for some it seems they have different sizes. We want to castrate on day three so...

I have a wee buckling here who was born 24 September. I have not once been able to feel either testicle in his scrotum, it has always felt completely empty. Otherwise he seems to have normal male genitalia, he also has bigger horns than his twin sister. Normally I would have put a ring on him by...

Hi all, I decided to buy a burdizzo to castrate my 9 week old buckling because the fiasco farm website was so adamant (as well as some other articles I've read) that it was the most humane method of castration. I watched videos and read up-- it looked like it'd be fairly simple, but when I...

Okay...this isn't life threatening, and I know it's been discussed, but PLEASE give me your opinions on this. My baby boy goatlet is 12 weeks old. He isn't going anywhere and either is his sister. He started his blubbering today.... Las Vegas has many many goats, but nobody seems to really...

Except for my first goat, who just wandered up to the house, every goat I have is an abandoned newborn that was given to me. I currently have 6 (2 does and 4 bucks). Sept. 6 I was given twin boys (Spanish/Boer):boy: . I clearly do not need more boys and will probably be selling these cute...
