Tonight was our first breeding of the year, with me almost missing Luna’s heat because I had just pushed it off as her being a little more vocal than usual. Goes to show that you cannot let anything slide with goats! Lol

Luna was our first doe to kid last year, and gave us two beautiful doelings, one which I retained and will be breeding this year as well. Last kidding the sire was one of our bucks Casper, but this year we’re changing it up and using our brand new buckling Lennox! I’m really hoping that he will improve on my lines quite a bit. Because he is still growing, he doesn’t look his best, but his lines are definitely a step up from where I started! Here is the mama and papa to be.

This would put her due date at March 21st. Just when the weather is starting to warm up! Perfect!

In this thread I will update regularly on the next breedings, their pregnancy, and eventual kidding.

Yay for the first breeding of the season! I hope the new buckling will give you all the improvements you are wishing for!
I will be looking for a buck or buckling myself for next year. So I’ll definitely be following along!

Really hoping she takes so I don’t have to bring her out with all the snow on the ground and the freezing weather! I’m dreading that for Nyx (Luna’s daughter from last year) since we missed her heat this month. 😰

A little update on Luna’s breeding, I’m pretty positive she short cycled and came back into heat yesterday. I’ve never experienced this before so I just put her back in with Lennox, but oh my! She would not stop screaming, it was concerning. I for sure thought one of our goats was dying, but no, it was just Luna in the strongest heat I’ve ever seen her in. That being said, when I put her in with the buck for a few hours he only bred her about… 3 times? Whereas before I put them together for 20 mins and he bred her 4 times. Not sure what’s going on there, but I’m just hoping she takes. Here are some pics of the girls from today.

Perfect timing on her part, Nyx has gone into heat today! We put her with Lennox for about 30 mins and he got the deed done multiple times, thankfully, since we have to leave to look at a doeling in about an hour. That would put her due date at… March 30th! If she takes, of course. She is also quite chunky, so I’m hoping this pregnancy takes a bit of weight off of her, lol!

So I’m pretty positive Luna is bred! From her first breeding date she hasn’t come back into heat yet, and that was 20 days ago. We still have a few days to wait, but so far it’s looking good.

If her second heat was the day she got bred, then we still have about a week to wait!
