‘The Hills’ Family Farm breeding and waiting thread

Tonight was our first breeding of the year, with me almost missing Luna’s heat because I had just pushed it off as her being a little more vocal than usual. Goes to show that you cannot let anything slide with goats! Lol

Luna was our first doe to kid last year, and gave us two beautiful doelings, one which I retained and will be breeding this year as well. Last kidding the sire was one of our bucks Casper, but this year we’re changing it up and using our brand new buckling Lennox! I’m really hoping that he will improve on my lines quite a bit. Because he is still growing, he doesn’t look his best, but his lines are definitely a step up from where I started! Here is the mama and papa to be.

This would put her due date at March 21st. Just when the weather is starting to warm up! Perfect!

In this thread I will update regularly on the next breedings, their pregnancy, and eventual kidding.

Got her on the stand this morning and geez, I feel like the last three days have been the exact same! Left ligament squishy, right ligament completely gone. Genuinely can’t decide if she’s progressing at all, so I’m going to stop guessing and just update you guys on any major changes until it happens. Her udder looks the same today, maybe a little bigger, but mostly the same. Oh, Luna.

That is what I am thinking, but she seems to keep proving me wrong! 😂

Her second due date is tomorrow, the 28th! I want so badly to guess, but if I do I just know she will read this thread and have them when I least expect it. 😂

Totally forgot to mention as well, we are now checking ligaments for Nyx as well since her due date is on the 30th! I hate to say it… but I just know they’ll go on the same day. UGH!

Alright, so this may be a false alarm… but Nyx seems to be showing signs of early or pre-labour. I saw her on the camera stretching a lot, hunching and digging, so I went outside to check on her and she’s acting very odd. demands pets but doesn’t want to be touched any further down than her shoulders, blubbered at me like a buck, and her udder looks pretty big from what I could tell. It was in a small closed off area so I couldn’t get a good look though, and I didn’t want her to hurt herself by jumping around when I tried to feel for ligaments so I didn’t get a good feel of that either. Felt hollow though from what I could tell. If she does end up going, I’m pretty shocked that it’s two days early! Wish her luck. ❤

I think we have ‘the pop!’
Nyx’s udder has seemed to grow all day today. It looks considerably more full compared to yesterday as well as even this morning! Still lots of digging, ligaments are getting very soft. Here are some comparison photos. Any guesses on how many Nyx will have? 😁 I’m guessing two, one of each.

Well?…how’s it going?
I feel like I’m the girl who cried wolf! 😂 every time I come to update it’s yet another disappointment. These girls are so confusing to me. Anyways, Nyx’s udder definitely got bigger yesterday and today her ligaments either are very very soft or they aren’t there, because I can’t feel them. Maybe I’m just not feeling in the right spot though. Otherwise she is eating, up and moving, no signs of distress or discomfort. Luna is also still holding out on us, as her ligaments have come back full force and are solid as a rock. 🤦‍♀️ I’m not imagining this udder pop, right? First pic is of yesterday evening, second is yesterday morning.

Update is that Nyx’s ligaments are completely gone, but she isn’t acting any different. I got her up on the stand and felt and it’s just completely mushy, nothing in there. She doesn’t seem to be bothered though, so I’m once again left with a question mark. I swear last year was easier! Maybe I’m not feeling in the right spot? Any lower and I just feel her leg bone

Yet another update… I think I’m getting better at feeling for ligaments now. Nyx has somehow had a second udder pop, because this morning it’s massive. Her ligaments are also almost completely gone, I had some help this time, with the left one being barely there and the right one being completely gone. She’s also very vocal this morning. Let’s cross our fingers she actually goes into labour today!
