Tonight was our first breeding of the year, with me almost missing Luna’s heat because I had just pushed it off as her being a little more vocal than usual. Goes to show that you cannot let anything slide with goats! Lol

Luna was our first doe to kid last year, and gave us two beautiful doelings, one which I retained and will be breeding this year as well. Last kidding the sire was one of our bucks Casper, but this year we’re changing it up and using our brand new buckling Lennox! I’m really hoping that he will improve on my lines quite a bit. Because he is still growing, he doesn’t look his best, but his lines are definitely a step up from where I started! Here is the mama and papa to be.

This would put her due date at March 21st. Just when the weather is starting to warm up! Perfect!

In this thread I will update regularly on the next breedings, their pregnancy, and eventual kidding.

Well, it happened! Nyx delivered her babies this afternoon with a little but if extra effort. Her first kid was positioned slightly upside down and with one hoof back, so it took a while to get it out. She was a champ though and eventually it came out, a little mini-me! Second kid came out super quickly after it’s sibling, but following it came a lot of blood. It terrified me and I swear my heart stopped, but Nyx is standing and nursing both kids, taking care of them like a great mama should. I’m thinking she tore, and that’s why there was so much of it. The first kid was pretty difficult to get out anyways.

well… I’m sure you’re all wondering the genders! Im very happy to announce that she gave birth to two gorgeous doelings, just like her mama did last year to her. Im so proud of Nyx and cannot wait to see her daughters grow. 🥰

I will have to keep an eye on her with the blood issue though, as that still has me very worried.

Congratulations on two doelings!! Great job getting out the upside down one.

I am sorry to hear she tore. Are you giving her antibiotics?

We’re going to call the vet tomorrow to see if we can’t fix her up and make sure everything is okay. Tonight I need to sleep, I’ve been stressed all day and I think if I have to do anything else I’ll drop dead! Lol
Meet Ash and Rue. Both little girls are doing great. Rue has a bit of a selenium deficiency but we gave her some selenium paste, so hoping all is well.

Gorgeous babies 💕
How’s mama doing this morning? Does she have a good appetite and drinking her water?
Did she get her placenta dropped ok?
She might benefit from a bit of cayenne and honey… cayenne will help clot her blood.

She’s doing great, eating and drinking! We got her on the stand and cleaned up her backend, gave her some pellet as well to make sure she was interested in food. She ate all her hay last night as well so I’m not concerned about that. Babies are up and healthy! Drinking from one side unfortunately so we had to milk her out this morning. Going to go to the vet and get some antibiotics and selenium since we can’t find where we put the paste. Are babies okay to get injectable selenium?

I’ve never given injectable Se to babies, but I guess I did give an injection of MM90 which my vet gave us instead of BoSe.
just a small amount, like .25cc as you don’t want to overdo it.
Glad your doe is feeling so good!

So a bit of a sad update… went to check the girls and realized they both have double tears. Ash has it on both sides too… I’m so upset. We don’t think it came from Nyx as Luna has been bred multiple times and never produced it. Her sire as well never produced double teats… we think it might happen to be Lennox. 😞

How long does pre-labour last? Luna has had sunken sides, no ligaments, an udder pop and has also been very vocal and affectionate for a very long time now. Started this morning. No signs of any obvious contractions, but she’s a tricky one. With Nyx it was much easier to tell when a contraction hit, whereas with Luna I haven’t seen any obvious ones. Otherwise she’s acting like she’s in labour. Seems to be exactly like last year too, but I’m not sure what triggered her labour last time. I remember trying to dilate her but I’m not sure if it worked. Any tips?

Congrats on the babies!! How disappointing to discover that they both have double teats though. 😞 Hoping Luna has a smooth labor to healthy, bouncy babies! Pre-labor can take a little while with some does. As long as she doesn't seem to be in too much distress or pain, she's probably just taking her sweet time. 😊

If it were me, with ligaments gone I would be doing night checks, or just stay with her.

She’s now lying down at my lap, breathing hard but still no signs of contractions or pushes. Could she need to be dilated, or should I wait longer? I’m of course worrying over everything

I would probably wait longer if no contractions yet.. but do do night checks just in case she get serious tonight 😉
Good luck! 🍀🍀🍀

Contractions on and off for a few hours now. Sometimes right next to each other and other times minutes apart. Not sure what this means, but she also has some white discharge which has been going on for a while too

Very hard contractions for a while now… no pushing. I tried checking her but I felt an odd barrier and didn’t want to hurt her by pushing through. I am very worried.
