Abscesses- CL or something else?

Hello everyone. First post here. Long time lurker. Thanks for all the info over the years.

I noticed abscesses on two of my goats this week. I’m worried it’s CL. A vet has been contacted and will be coming out to look but wanted to get the community’s thoughts.

pretty much in the same spot on both of them. Showed up on the top goat first and noticed the second goat had an abscess today.

Did they receive vaccines there? Doesn't look like CL location from these pix..looks a tad high? If it's in that crook..then could be CL

Yes they received CDT injections intramuscularly. I’m hoping that’s all this is. The shot was a couple of weeks ago though which makes me suspect something else.

Cd&t is notorious for making cysts. And can take a week or longer to form. Best way to know is test the pus once the cyst is ripe. Should be soft in the center like a ripe grape. Don't try to Lance when hard. It will cause infections. Just keep close eye in them and when soft enough, use a 18 g needle with syringe to draw some pus out and test.
Don't panic. Just test to give peace of mind.

Awesome. I’ll probably go this route. Still having a vet come out

Vet may choose to Lance now...I would politely request them to hold off.

Here’s a picture of common CL locations. I agree to wait till it’s soft before lancing or getting pus out with a syringe. Be sure to do it away from common areas or pathways and burn anything you use or dispose of in a dumpster off property.
****EDIT: the marking behind the front leg (armpit) isn’t accurate, that’s NOT a CL location

If it's any comfort, I've had several abscesses that weren't CL. One was most likely from a CDT shot given when I bought a doe, and which popped up a few weeks after I brought her home. The other was on my wether's jaw, and I suspect was from a cut or a thorn prick inside his mouth that got infected. It is still best to treat them as though they do have CL until you can run a culture on the pus inside the abscess and rule it out.

If they got a CDT shot there, then it is from the shot.

I agree I don’t think it’s CL. If you have the cdt IM it might just be swelling from the shot and not a abscess at all. It’s not uncommon for swelling at a IM injection site with any kind of vaccine or meds you are giving.

If you know you have given the vaccination there, it is not CL.

Could even be a bee sting or bug bite.
If it came up over night.
