Does anyone have experience with artificial insemenation? How soon after you do the first AI will you know she is bred? I'm new to this but want to AI my boer does

Have you bred your does before? I've heard you shouldn't do AI on virgin does.

No I've never bred them. They're about to be 7 months in the next couple weeks. I'm having a hard time deciding btwn AI from a buck I like but can't afford live coverage, or a live coverage that's cheaper but a lesser quality buck. Or just sucking it up and buying my own buck so I don't have to worry about blood testing and all that if i have to take my girls somewhere

They say that AI in a maiden doe should be avoided because it is harder to get the straw past the cervix, so therefor you would have to deposit the semen outside of the cervix and uterus and hope that the sperm travels far enough to fertilize and egg.

Having your own buck can be handy. Also, AI can be fairly expensive, so it *could* ad up to the cost of live coverage or buying your own buck. Especially if you do it multiple times.
