Ammonium Chloride (Once Weekly)

701 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Orcakat
Hi everyone!

Sorry for another Ammonium Chloride post, but I couldn't find what I was looking for in previous posts. I have 3 wether kids that I would like to start on a preventative dose of Ammonium Chloride. It sounds like once weekly should do the trick, and I'll try adding it to feed.

I usually give them about 2-3 cups of grain (2 small grain scoops) and they share from the same grain bowl. What dosage do you recommend if I am doing this weekly?

Thanks!

Sorry, I just saw this... I'm not sure why I didn't include in the original post. Oops!

12 weeks, and they are all about 20lbs.

I think for adults it is a tablespoon but I'm not sure on kids.

What breed are they? I'm not typically in favor of feeding grain to wethers unless they are undernourished. If they are a standard breed and only weigh 20 lbs. at 12 weeks, then grain is appropriate. Many brands of grain formulated for goats have ammonium chloride already added. Switching to one of those brands would sure make it easier on you! It's hard to get a goat to take a whole tablespoon of AC. It's extremely bitter and it can sting the throat.

They are NDs, and the breeder recommended feeding grain until about 8 months of age. I'll check the feed- if it isn't already added, I'll switch over. I won't feed additional ammonium chloride.
