We have a 5 year old Alpine that received a dose of ammonium chloride at the vet today (tube down in the stomach to give the medicine). How long does it take for the medicine to start working? He looks like he is trying to urinate but nothing happens. We had him at the vet and had an ultrasound done. The bladder was empty and the vet didn't see any stones.

Anything else to try at home in terms of home remedies?

Why was he given amm chloride if he didn't have any stones? I hope the vet probed the pizzle to see if there was anything stuck in the very end. That's where a lot of stones get stuck.

It usually only takes less than 24 hours but if there's nothing to dissolve it won't work. I think the vet needs to look a little more closely.
