I first off wanted to say thanks for all of your stories you've PM'd/emailed me regarding my previous thread: http://www.thegoatspot.net/forum/f193/goat-stories-wanted-tv-special-166361/ They've all been very helpful. I just had a question for you all, and I was hoping you could help me out with it. What would you say is considered the best major livestock/goat show where one could submit his/her goat to win for "best goat", or "best individual animal"? I'm just trying to do more research now regarding where these competitions take place, and felt the best people to ask would the ones here. Best, Mark
For this you are going to have to research the best fairs/shows. The Puyallup Fair in WA state is a good place to start. No shame here promoting my state & favorite fair to exhibit at. It is one of the top fairs in the nation AND one of the most sanitary. It is in Sept.
For dairy goats, I would say that would be ADGA Nationals. Each year it is held at a different location. www.adga.org
Each breed of goat has its own National Show and Auction. But for all breed in dairy only ADGA is the biggest. Meat goats I do not think have a all breed registry. So it would be the breed clubs nationals.
national shows are usually the "top" shows, and most major breed organizations hold one, like ABGA and ADGA. OYE (Oklahoma youth stock show) is a big one for my state, though it's for all livestock, not just goats.
National shows like mentioned and as posted above.. OYE, We have 'The Big E' or the Eastern States Expo around here that is pretty big, and all livestock like the OYE..
Also, there is a National Goat Expo in IL every year. It's an all-breed (dairy, boer, pygmy, miniature, fainters, silkies, angora, etc.) Not quite sure what the numbers in attendance are though. Other than that ADGA nationals and the various other breed associations would be good places.
Thanks everyone. Right now I'm looking for the major shows that only target goats. I'll look into the AGBA one. Best, Mark
ABGA Nationals would be the biggest for the Boers. Im sure there could be bigger ones but they also have other livestock.
