I have a friend that has goats. She mentioned to me that she was treating a doe for what she thinks is a infection. She has no internet and I told her I would try to get her some help. Her vet is going to her farm tomorrow. But she is looking for some input on what it is and what can she do to help her doe through the night. She said its the first she has seen of it on her doe. No high temps, eating and drinking normal. She says it doesn't seem to bother.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have an older doe who has that same look....I believe it is like a goat hemorrhoid or something. It doesn't bother her and it only shows when she is pooping....although I will add, I am not very experienced...but it does not bother my doe at all

Thanks. I wonder if its something that can be treated and would it ever get worse if she has any kids. With the force of pushing etc.

Not sure but my doe had twin kids last may and it didn't change...and one I had to help out due to a big head...

That looks like a partial rectal prolapse. Or maybe a prolapse that wasn't put back in correctly?

its the first she has seen of it today. The doe is fine. Eating, drinking and acting like her normal self. Her temp is fine and her droppings. She said its been showing all day since she noticed it.

That looks different to me...I have seen prolapse in humans but not goats, though. The pic the OP posted resembles what my goat's anus looks like when she poops...as soon as she is done pooping, everything is back to normal....I'll be interested to know what the vet says it is..maybe a slight prolapse?? :thinking:

Her vet went this morning and said she has a Mild Partial Hernia. The Vet prescribed her goat with Banamine to help with inflammation and said to give Vitamin B-12. He told her to keep a eye on it and to call him in a day or two to see how she is. Thanks to all that replied.

I agree..We had a young Mini donkey with a PR and it looked like the pic on the link..this girls bum looks like you discribed...Doesnt look like a hernia either but the pic is a bit blurry...glad the vet is involved...

Huh...a mild partial hernia....wonder if thats what Heidi has....but like Karen said, hers does look raw...my goats doesn't look raw...just reddish and is not out all the time.

update

I got a updated from my friend about her doe. The medication and vitamins seems to be doing the trick. The swelling, inflammation/raw look has reduced a lot and the tissue is getting darker and back to normal color. (not screaming red any more)

I will try to get a recent/clear picture of how its healing and see what you guys/gals think. Vets can make mistakes here and there simply because some visual examinations can look like minor symptoms of many. From that one picture I myself could not tell if its a prolapse or a hernia. onder:

I hope its just a hernia because if its a prolapse. Her kidding days would be over soon right?:blue:

Good news for her...!!!

No, I dont think a prolaps will end her kidding career : ) she might need more maintaince, but she would kid just fine..
