Hi yall.
As most of yall probably know, I am getting a doe Thursday. . . . . .but unfortunately I just realized I have nothing to transport her in that will fit in the car. I know I could fit a crate in, but I am worried that the person I am getting her from might not sell her to me because of having the crate. What do you think? Do you think it would be ok to do the crate? I can't fit a dog cage in.

I just put a tarp on the floor in the back/hatch area behind the back seats, and some blankets or towels.

I'm picking my babies up in a dog crate! If you Google, that's the top recommendation so I'm not sure why they wouldn't be okay with that lol. How far is the drive?

I'm in Macon and she is in Fayetteville, so like an hour-and a-half drive.

That's about how far I'm going to pick up mine. Of course, they're babies, so maybe it's different.

She is 8 months, and she is a Nigerian Dwarf, so maybe she would be small enough to fit in a crate? I mean, if the crate is large.

A crate should be just fine if they won't sell her to you then thats just strange.

What kind of car are you transporting her in? If it has a trunk that is open to the cab, you can just put a tarp down, then some bedding and transport her like that. I've gotten all my goats home like that. It works great. You could probably even do that on the floor of the car, like in front of a seat if you had to. They don't tend to move around much once they are in the car.

Well, I was just worrying because it didn't seem very professional to use a crate.

I had someone pick up kids from me use a crate and they've been raising goats for thirty years.😉 I'm sure it won't be an issue. 👍

Yes our first goats were Nubians and they were delivered in plastic dog carriers in the trunk of a van

It’s just so much easier to put them in the back of you vehicle. I finally got a Goat Tote for my truck to transport my guys but most of the time I still put down one of those seat covers for dogs or a tarp in the back seat. All of my goats love riding in the car especially with the window down! A friend of mine even transports her lamas like this. You will get a lot of crazy looks though😜

plastic dog crate works great but m ake sure to put a tarp down at least on the door side. the one time you dont then you have urine all over your car. get something that isnt slippery for footing i use an old rug

Thanks for all your kind replies!
my 8 month olds arent huge, do yu have someone riding with you? maybe they can hold her? may be easier. or you can try putting her down on the floor board on the passengers side with some plastic.
- i think she may jump out of the plastic bin. ask her how much she weighs or do you have a photo?

My daughter is coming with me, and so she could probably keep her in the crate.

Every goat I purchased went in a large wire dog crate and I never had a seller look at me funny for it. I had a tarp down, the wire crate in the back seat and lots of straw inside it. She likely will just hop out of the tote and it may not give her enough room to lie down comfortably (depending on the size) but a tarp and some straw in the back seat of a car work just fine too.
