I found this WONDERFUL page on Goat Hoof Trimming... turns out it's a big boer goat farm not far from us, I've contacted them before about buying some market animals! Small World...

Anyway, I HAD to post this for anyone needing a tune-up on trimming or a lesson for new-goat-owners...

Awesome article, I think I might just have to give that advice a try tomorrow, well not tomorrow, but maybe by Friday I will feel up to trimming hooves, have a dentist appointment in the morning, I would rather trim hooves much rather do that then go to the dentist.

This page has a virus! I did delete the virus and then you can read the page, good instruction, but be sure you have active anti-virus.

This is their actual website... http://www.gorge-usboergoats.com/

then just click on Hoof Trimming on the links at the top of the page.

I also saved it as a Word file and a PDf file, but the forum won't let me upload it????? Any idea's????

That is a good article on hoof trimming. I have not been able to get the heals trimmed down that far. I do have a hoof plane but is the hooves are damp it doesn't work. I have a pair of the shears for hoof trimming and have found that
a pair of garden pruning shears Works well too

just thought I'd mention since hoof trimming has come up that I recently had a breakthrough using a utility knife http://itstrulyrandom.com/wp-content/up ... yknife.jpg
instead of trimmers.... you have to be careful of course not to cut either yourself or the goat and I wouldn't use it with a really arguementative trimmer but it has been great for me. I can now really get my toes cut down which is great with my saanens who are prone to weak pasterns....

Also if someone has managed to download the article and convert it to pdf then you can e-mail it to me and I'd be happy to put it online (using my website) so everyone else can see it....
    :)
