Baby goat pee smells like smoke

764 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Dogs_with_horns
Hello all! So I acquired a 3 week baby goat being fed a milk replacer powder that I am transitioning onto a homemade milk supplement. I have noticed over the past couple of days that his urine smells like campfire smoke? I have raised many a goat and bottle babies and have never come across this. Any ideas! He is now 4?weeks old and acts fine, very energetic and taking a bottle well. He was taken from his mom at birth, they said he had pneumonia but he is doing well now and has lost the wheezing, just for further info

I guess as long as he is fine otherwise, just keep an eye on him.

Thank you for your response :)
I did give him some apple cider vinegar and a touch of molasses but I have not ever experienced such a thing! Lol

That is weird. Seems to be the year of strange lol. What is your home made milk supplement?

I use 1 gallon whole cow milk minus 2 cups, add 1 cup of whole fat cultured buttermilk, and 1 can of evaporated milk. I got this recipe from Jack Maulden when he raised Boers and have used it for years. If my dairy goats are in milk I use that but I didn’t breed them last season so this is what I do.

Have you had fires and smoke in your area? That is strange for sure. 🤔
That recipe doesn't seem to be somthing to cause the smell. I'm puzzled too
