Does it matter what type of hay goats are fed? Alfalfa hay is nearing $16. But I can get grass hay for $11. I feed grain and minerals as well.

Thanks!
My herd is spoiled with alfalfa I think.

You can always get the grass hay and then add alfalfa pellets. It is important for males to have that minimum of 2:1 calcium to phosphorus.

I feed a Timothy/Clover mix hay, and add alfalfa pellets to everyone's grain. :)

Yes, it can matter a great deal. If you have wethers, grass hay is fine. If you have heavy bred or lactating does, grass hay will not support either and you are going to have to feed a lot of grain to bring it up to where it needs to be. Anytime you feed a lot of grain you run the risk of the more dominant does getting all the grain which can kill them. Grass hay is also fine for short bred does as long as it is high quality.
