(background so you can understand the story. We live in a small town with a major road called Jackson - speed limit, 50 -everyone takes it at 55mph. Our street intersects Jackson just a few hundred feet from our house. Neighbors name is Mike - lives across the street. One street over is another neighbor Sue.) It's my day off so I was sleeping in. At 7:30am my mom says Mike called, goats are out on the street! I do my best not to trip and fall out of bed. Grab my coat and slip on my shoes. Still with cobwebs in my eyes and run out to their barn (have to check to see for sure they are gone). Get near by call "Babies" then head towards the street. Before I make it even to the side of the house here comes the whole herd running at full speed. Poor things were shaking and trembling butting each other and I could just tell pretty upset. I open the gate and let them back into their pen. Seems the wind blew their gate open after the latch was rattled loose. The dog pen gate was open and they just took a wonder around. I yell to my mom that they are all here now and to call Mike and thank him. Get back inside after all goats are fed and calm again (they calmed down pretty fast I was surprised) and seem no worse for their travels. I come back inside and mom says - "mike said sue on Ileen saw them near Jackson road, she knew they were our goats so she called mike and he called us." Near Jackson road!!!! thats extremely dangerous! Called mike back to thank him personally and he said that when Sue called him the goats had made it back down our street and were stopping at his house looking confused. And about then I called them and he was like "it was really cool, they just turned and ran for your voice" I thanked him again and asked him to pass that onto Sue (who I know through our neighbors) and then thanked the Lord over and over before snuggling back into bed for another hour or so of sleep. Will keep an eye on them for stress - but they seem to be fine. Crazy goats :GAAH:
Thank you Lord for keeping all those little wanderers safe! And, for great neighbors who take the time to care and call. I'm so glad it ended so well.
you and me both. I was so pleased they came running when I called. Sometimes rounding them up can be a bit of a chore.
I bet they were so scared at all that traffic that hearing your voice was like Heaven to them. "Oh, it's momma, we knew she'd save us!" I'm glad you were home so you could call them.
Oh my - I am so glad that they are ok and home safe and sound. That would scare me to death also!!! Give them alot of lovin' and snacks. Maybe a lock for the gate??
it now has a clip on it -- had it there anyway but with the freezing rain we were having in January I stopped using it (would freeze it shut) and got out of the habbit of doing it. So back to clipping the gate latch shut now.
Stacey, glad they are all back home and safe. I tell you when you have god neighbors they are worth their weight in gold. :hi5: To them
wow ....what an ordeal...the lord was watching over them...that is for sure...I am happy they came back safe and ran to your voice that quickly...sure sounds like they were trying to find there way back home.. but got a little confused where it was ....then they hear "Home"...in your voice....their Momma.... ray:
Oh gosh! That road is really dangerous. I remember trying to get on and off of it. Thank God They are safe! He really was watching over them for you.
Yes our neighbors are really good about our goats -- and we help them with their dogs that like to get out too. Here is a picture of the newly secured latch :thumb: [attachment=0:m0ayxyzc]The girls Feb 23rd 002.jpg[/attachment:m0ayxyzc] Pictures of the little rascals coming...

Oh my goodness, my heart would have been in my throat! Thank goodness you have kind neighbors. Not saying I don't but where I live . . . loose livestock is a daily routine. We just drive on by them. Then again, we're 11 miles deep in dirt roads. I'm glad they came to you!
