Bloat after banding

742 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  toth boer goats
My Nubian buck was banded on Sunday. All was well. He did not make any noise when it was applied. He ate well and ran around as normal. I made sure both testes were through the band and both nipples above it. On Friday we noticed he was bloated. We used baking soda water and massage and burped him and also gave him a B12 shot. His bloat went down some. Today he was eating hay still walking stiff and still bloated and this evening he passed. Could it have been a banding issue? He was one of our first bottle babies as we lost the mom a few days after the triplets were born. Any advice is appreciated.

Oh I am so sorry this happened :( the only thing I can think that MIGHT have happened is maybe you got part of intestine in the band. Did you out the band way up against his stomach or just above the testicles? Sometimes a kid will have a small hernia in there which allows a little intestine to come down.
But I’m not sure if that would take so long to kill him. I did kill a kid once doing this but I handed him mid afternoon and early morning he was dead, so was fairly fast.

Thank you for the reply. I keep feeling guilty like I did something wrong. He was such a sweet boy.
I am so sorry 😢
