Bloody raw spots under Twins’s tails

557 Views 14 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Jubillee
So I have noticed this for about a week now but didn’t realize it was this bad until today. These twins are 4 weeks old. A buckling and a doeling. What in the world is this? And how do I treat it?

Maybe the mama is licking them so raw they are getting bloody and yucky? Just a thought.

Hmm, it doesn't really look like anything I'm familiar with, I guess it could be from mom over licking, don't think it would be staph but definitely could be. Any ideas, @happybleats?

I'd clean it really good for now and apply Antibiotic cream like Neosporin on it a few times a day. Might be some type of a fungus? Honestly, I don't know.
Wait nevermind I do think it might be staph after taking a closer look at the buckling. He has little pimple like bumps around his rectum. I'd treat for Staph.

I found this that Cathy said in an old thread-

"Sure looks like staph. The Chlorhexidine is great for this. Wash a few times a day. Wear gloves. I would also feed her Garlic paste to boost her immune system ( just blend fresh garlic with olive oil to make a paste and feed about a tablespoon a few times a day)"

Sorry folks for being MIA for the most part. Daughter got married...been busy week.

I agree that is staph and looks a bit infected. Possibly mom licking them. Check their temps. Give vit c and garlic paste tobheko boost immunity. (Paste is fresh raw garlic blended smooth ex virgin olive oil. Feed a 1/2- 1 teaspoon a few times a day.

The buckling looks like some of his poop may have also gotten stuck to the area. That may have happened on the doeling, too, but it's harder to tell. I would get a warm, wet rag and gently clean that area up so you can tell exactly what and where the problem is.

Oh wow ok thanks everyone! I wasn’t sure what it is but was thinking fungus or staph. I’ll pick up some chlorhexidine and I’ll wash them tonight. Do I dab the chlorhexidine on the area? Or do I dilute it with water first?

Should be diluted 10 to 2, 10 parts water to 2 parts chlorhexidine.

Yep, I put it in a spray bottle and spray it in the area 2 x a day.
Be sure to shake the bottle before using.
Just spray it and let the goat go.

I've had this on several kids this year, it's staph. I spray with chlorhexidine 2 times daily and then put NuStock on it. Heals up fairly quick. It starts with the bumps and they open up and get yucky. I spray the other kids that don't have it with the chlorhexidine spray too so it kills any staph before it starts.
