Booster for baby goats

619 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  toth boer goats
Hello goat family. I have six week old baby goats that had the milk from the dough that had the CDT vac, so The baby got it through their mom. Now they’re six weeks old and I am told it wears off between six and eight weeks. So after I give them the CD T vac. How long until I need to give them the booster? And what is the name of the booster? Thanks for any advice.

They’ll need 2 doses of CDT 21-28 days apart.
Each dose is 2cc’s no matter size or breed. I give it at 8 weeks then follow up 21 days later with the second dose personally, but some wait till 10-12 weeks old.
I use Colorado Serum or Barvac

You boostered mom. Kids get antibodies from mom. They get way more antibodies than just CDT from mom. But the vaccine itself doesn't transfer to the kid. Mom's antibodies in any animal including human fades as the kid's own immune system kicks in.

I initially give kids first dose of the vaccine at 2 months old, then the booster shot 21 to 28 days later.
Then they are good for 1 year.
