I have two does that kidded the first week of December 2020, the one is going to be three in May, she kidded triplets and they all went to their new homes in February, my question is , is okay to breed her in July for oct- nov kids or is that too soon? She is a Nigerian dwarf.
The other doe was accident bred at 4 months and Kidded in December 2020 , since she was so young I’m going to give her a longer break and breed her in December 2021 for April kids, I want my does to kid at different times so I thought this would be best. But I don’t know how long you should wait till you breed them again. Is June too soon??
Thanks for any advice, last year was my first year raising and breeding goats so I’m not quite sure.

I have mine born Mid Fed/March.
Lush spring grasses
were starting soon after.
Was a little cold some days but I worked around that.

Did summertime kidding, won’t do it again, was too hot for the pregnant does and kids, the flies were horrible.
Spring grasses were gone by then.

Did December kidding won’t do it again very cold.

I didn’t think about the hot months being hard on a pregnant goat, is very stressful on them when it’s hot? She would be prego from June to oct so she would be pregnant the hottest month of the year, is it hard on them if they’re pregnant should I wait? I don’t want to risk her losing the kids if it gets too hot or will she be fine?

It would be harder on her yes. Its the same reason humans avoid being pregnant during the summer if they can. Its a lot of extra stress on them

Do you think I should wait we have lots of shade trees if that makes a difference, October is very nice weather in Pennsylvania so I thought October would be a nice time to have kids it get up to 80 and 90 some days in July and August Do you think I should wait . She was prego from July to December last her and did fine.

Its up to you. Some people do it no problem. July-December would have had her heaviest pregnant months in cooler weather so thats the big difference.
To me I just like to minimize any risk I can which is why I aim for the months where they will be more comfortable.

Hopefully nobody thinks me a bad goat owner, but I think I’ll try breeding her in June and if she seems very stressed I wouldn’t breed her again in June and if she don’t take in June I’ll wait to breed her in November because I don’t want kids born any later than the beginning of November.

It will be very unpleasant for her carrying extra weight and it is very hard on her late term pregnancy.
I would wait but that is just me.

Thanks, I follow weed em and reap and it’s pretty much hot their all the time and her goats do fine in the hot weather when they’re pregnant so I think I’ll try this year and see how it goes and if she seem very stressed I wouldn’t do it again. Thanks though
