I bred 2 mares this year, unfortunately one did not take. Hoping this spring we can get her in foal. If not will be looking into embryo transfer for her.
Icy is 155 days in foal today. Picture of ultrasound was taken at 58 days. Her due date is July 14th 2018. She was bred to a black aqha stud. Hoping for a loud b/w overo or tovero filly. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

That is a long time. Waiting on a horse must be so much harder than waiting on a goat!

Yea certainly not easy. I think waiting between breeding day and when I know they're pregnant is worse. Especially when it's already a difficult one to get on foal. Like the mare that didn't take. But at least it's only 3 weeks vs. 11 months

And the last 2 months of pregnancy is tough. Excited for the baby and just wanting it to be over for the mare lol

Icy has a cute little baby belly started. She is 8 months along today. 3 months to go.

I can't imagine breeding horses... the wait for those foals lol! It's hard enough waiting 5 months with the goats!
I live in thoroughbred country, and worked on a breeding farm many years ago, and remember the excitement of waiting for our favorite mares to foal. We had a couple of fields of barren or maiden mares that we cared for, and they'd transfer from us to the foaling barn. I loved getting there a few minutes early to clock in at the foaling barn so I could walk the aisle (24 stalls) and see the new arrivals, was there at lunch and after work as well. I do miss that.
My husband has done foal watch/foaling for many years. Foaling season here is Jan-late May although some late June foals sometimes. This will be the first year he won't be doing foaling unless the other guy doesn't work out.

There is a breeding sale that starts today. I used to go and take pictures all the time until we got into goats - usually kidding this time of year, but we've changed things up and have been having more Feb/Mar kids lately. I wanted to go to this sale, but came down sick! Figures.
Anyway, I like to look through the sales catalog to look for mares who are due and scout out the barns for any possible foals. There is another sale usually late Jan or in Feb that has lots of babies. I feel bad for the mares, but it is cute to see the babies being escorted up to the pavilion and walking, waiting their turn to go inside, they are so bouncy and innocent.

Sorry to ramble! can't wait to see what your girl has! Hopefully you can get your other girl bred.
