Can goats eat wisteria

I'm back! Did you miss me?! Probably not but still, Hi I'm back.
I've been doing a lot with my herd in the last year and haven't been on at all.
I've always loved wisteria and would love to grow some. However I know it's toxic, I've read so many articals saying yes they can eat it, and then a sparc few saying NO!
I'm just wanting opinions. My goats are in a fairly secure pen but we all know accidents happen and they like to get free...

I actually just read an article on toxic plants and wisteria was on it. This wasn't specifically for goats but if you don't have a place to put it away from the goats, I probably wouldn't plant it. Good "seeing" you again!

We have wisteria. The goats have eaten a few leaves/ flowers here and there and I have not noticed any ill effects. They can’t reach it from their paddock but the children bring them a flower every once in a while.

No advice, but yes I missed you! How's your herd doing?

Apparently, wisteria is poisonous but can be eaten by goats in small amounts with no problems.
This may vary with the type of wisteria. Like most ornamental plants, new cultivars are developed for visual appeal with no regard for toxicity. Some varieties may be more or less toxic.
My take away is: don't worry if goats accidentally eat some wisteria, but don't go out of your way to feed it to them.

I'll make a post about what's been going on in the last year, but my herd is doing well. How have you and your herd been?

It's really hard to know what, is poisonous. Depending on the source you, can even hear oak leaves and wild onions are poisonous. Nanadia are supposed to be off the goat eat list, but mine have eaten it with no problem! If anyone has trusted sight I would be interested.

I would be afraid to allow them to eat it.

It's not part of their regular diet, but in the past we've pruned the bushes and fed the mounds to them. Anyway, that's my experience!

Thank you all for your input. What I've gathered is do my best to keep them away but if they do get into it just watch and be very careful. I have a ton of activated charcoal on hand at all times now a days, After an incident with my bottle babies I know it saves lives.

I have read several things that are poisonous to goats such as azaleas. It is supposed to be very poisonous but I have a lady near me with nothing but Boar goats and they go in and out of her fence like it was all open gates. Her yard is full of azaleas and the goats eat all they want with no problems. And get this, i ask her does she have any worm problems ( like I do with my boar goats sometimes) she replied “no not very much”. She has had goats for over 5 years. NOW I’m not saying that azaleas are a good wormer , but it does make you wonder. Would I recommend it, absolutely not, she has very little grass and they have cleared the woods that they have for pasture so this makes for a head scratcher.
