I have been thinking lately about my goats and how we have some that do not follow the pygmy colors and I am wondering if they are mixes of the two breeds. Can you please help me to understand that difference between them? Sometimes I can tell, but then when i did a search on the net for comparison pictures the same ones came up in BOTH! Not very helpful!

You can also go to my goats page and tell me what you think.
-I know SweatP is a mix of a larger goat (her HUGE ears give that one away) Her daughters pumpkin and lilly are much smaller and less airplane like than her.
-Dottie has VERY flashy coloring for a pygmy, I am wondering if her mom was a large nigi (i no longer have her, but can post pictures if needed)

We love our goatie babies and i would just like to know!

    thanks for the help!

ok these are the pygmy standard -- shows their stocky nature and the acceptable color patterns. No other color patterns are allowed. http://www.npga-pygmy.com/resources/con ... amples.asp

the color patterns for nigerian dwarf are quite varried -- they can be anything. Check out this color genetics site. Scroll down for pictures http://members.cox.net/foxcroft/genetics.htm

Also pygmies cant have blue eyes but Nigerian Dwarfs can.

looked at your site -- you have some variety of mixes, and only a handful that actually could be considered to follow the pygmy breed standard in color and build wise.

I would consider your herd a mini mix herd.
