How late in the pregnancy can you give the CD&T vaccine to benefit the unborn kids? I have a doe that's due in the next week to ten days.

Thanks

Normally you would give it at 4 weeks prior to delivery. You can give it now though. The kids probably won't get much from it though.

I'd give it anyhow. I've had that happen before, oops! I've even seen recommendations of two weeks, which I think is too short, but better than nothing. I'd just make sure that doe's babies get plenty of colostrum.

Keep in mind that no antibodies cross the placenta. The babies get their passive immunity from antibodies in colostrum. If the doe was previously vaccinated, the re-vaccination prior to kidding just jump starts her system to increase the levels.

Ok, that makes sense. I understand it better now. I'll give her a dose when I get home today.

That goes under the skin, not in the muscle, correct? Neck / shoulder area?

My wife has done this a few times but I've never done it.

Thanks Everyone!

location for CDT

Yes CDT is given sub cutaneously under the skin. A good spot for loose skin can be found near, under and behind where the front leg attaches to body.
