Help! I am very new to goats I have four that are four months old and one of them has had diarrhea for the past few days. I’ve withheld grain and it’s still back and forth between diarrhea and log type poops I’m leaning towards coccidosis and was wondering if there is something I can give from home without bringing them to a vet? Our vet is an hour away.

You should mail in a fecal sample to Meadow Mist Lab Service (just look up the name).

In the meantime, check FAMACHA score, rectal temp, and give tummy trouble paste:

1/2 teaspoon of cayenne, cinnamon, slippery elm bark powder, and ginger (can be substituted for a slice of raw ginger the size of a quarter about 1/2 cm thick). Blend with 1 raw clove of garlic, molasses, apple cider vinegar, and enough water to drench

Hi I’ve had coccidosis in a few month old Nigerian dwarf doe. I would suggest taking her temperature. If it’s low get her/him in some heat. When my doe got it (she was only a few weeks old) we put her in a 103 to 104 degree bath for a while till her temp went up. Then we gave her some milk. Of corse your goat may be a little big to bring in the house and put in the bath.
Though I can suggest corrid as a medication for coccidosis and pepto bismol for the diarrhea. Corrid is given orally 1 cc per 20 lb and also should be given which a vitamin b complex also can be given orally at 1 cc per 20 lb. The corrid and vitamin b should be given once a day for five days.
The pepto bismol is given orally 1 cc per 12 lb. That should only have to be given once unless they still have it a few weeks later.
Also if you think he or she has a stomach bug than you can simply give them some baking soda.

Meadow Mist labs do quick work and lets you know what and how many parasites you are dealing with. In the mean time the tummy tamer recipe NDO posted above will help with his tummy issues and take care of some of the worm load.

Hows his famacha ? If you choose to use corid for coccidiosis, do not use B complex or any thiamine while using it. Coccidia needs thiamine to thrive. To put simply, Corid mimics thiamine, tricking the coccidia to eat it and there for dieing of starvation. Do keep the thiamine handy incase baby shows polio symptoms. If this happens stop corid and start thiamine treatment. Corid should be diluted then dosed orally once a day for five days.
Mix 6 tablespoons of prepared corid to 16 oz water.
Dose: 30cc per 100 lbs 15cc per 50 lbs 7.5 per 25 lbs and so forth
