Copper Bolus Pregnant Does

385 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  toth boer goats
Hi there,

I have two pregnant does (roughly two months) that will be needing a copper bolus soon. Someone on this forum gave me the ratio of 1 gram per 22 pounds for the copper bolus. They are much heavier now with their pregnancies. Does the 1 gram per 22 pounds still apply with the extra pregnancy weight?

Thanks,
Jen

I would think so. That’s how I did it with my preggo girls. @happybleats @Lil Boogie @GoofyGoat

I would say yes. I did my girls that way back in Dec when they were still bred and it worked just like normal.
I would go by current weight

Copper boluses have a pretty good margin of error and that because when we give it to them it’s not hitting their system NOW like many other things that can be given. The rods stay embedded in the stomach and is slowly absorbed. So what they weigh right now should be just fine ;)

Give by weight they are at the moment of wanting to give it to them. ;)
