coughing goats

    I have a couple of goats that have started coughing this week thanks to our wonderful weather here. So I am wondering, do I give them a few PCN shots like I normally do my horses and if so, how much would you give a niggie? They are acting fine and have no other symptoms, just coughing and I don't want it to get worse. Also, both does are pregnant to kid in the next month or so. TIA

    I dont give antibiotics unless there is more signs then just coughing.

    Coughing can be caused by a simple cold or by lungworms, dust or pneumonia.

    For lungworms they need Ivermectin wormer

    For a cold i give Nutri Drench and vetrx

    for pneumonia there is usually colored snotty nose and its thick (yuck) and they get Oxytetracycline (LA 200, Duramycin or Biomycin) 1cc per 20lbs for 5 days. Penicillin can be used but many times it is ineffective for respiratory issues. Give 1cc per 10lbs twice a day for 5-7 days.
