Coughing herd?

Okay I have a few of my "kids" coughing. Not all the time but enough for me to notice. All still are eating, drinking (a lot actually) peeing and pooing fine. Some have some nasal discharge. Should I be taking temps? They all seem and act fine just the cough and nasal discharge. Should I give some vit c's for immune booster? I was thinking perhaps a cold going around? At what point do I suspect pneumonia? I had 4 last year that had the same thing, same time as last year, but all were better within a month or so, but I don't wanna risk it not being the same thing if I should be doing something.

Your thoughts, advice?

I do have LA200 and penicillin on hand...

Pneumonia starts with a high temp OR a sub temp. I would give Robitussin DM to help break up the mucous and bring them back to health quicker.

Okay, I can do that. How much? Safe for preggo does?
I agree with goat hiker and I would add B complex...but do take temps a few times a day..silent pneumonia can sneak in quick...be ready with Tylan 200 just in case (LA200 is not recommended to pregnant doe and young kids)
Do not use any tetracycline on pregnant does or kids under six months old because It may interfere with bone & teeth formation both in utero and while kids are growing.
1 cc per 25# every 12 hours sub Q ...

best wishes
Yes, safe for preggos. Just follow the human dosing guide.

What is the difference between LA 200 and Tylan 200? Just curious.

LA 200 is Tetracycline
Tylan 200 is Tylosin an advanced relative of Pen G
Thanks!!:) I'll get some Tylan 200 tomorrow then.
Don't mean to hijack thread but does the tylon burn like the LA?
I'm not sure, hopefully someone will pipe in. I got it, but haven't used it yet. My kids seem to be better already:)
Nope, it doesn't sting much.
Thanks scottyhorse I hate giving la 200 cause they cry so much and it actually ate away my does skin and fur where I injected her last time

It shouldn't. If you don't like the sting of LA 200, switch to Biomycin. It is the same thing, but has a different carrier that doesn't burn.

Do I have to get that one from vet ?
No Biomycin should be found where Tylan 200 and LA 200 are carried...and No Tylan does not sting as bad as LA 200...My goats hardly even react to it..Be sure to go Sub Q...its a lot less painful all around for the goat
