Oh my gosh! I guess it was like Pavlov and the dogs, her “bell” is standing on the milk stand. Amazing! Did you wash her and then it happened? Next time, just put the bucket there and phone your mom.
It was before I even washed her udder. I just had her up there, gave her the grain, and then the phone rang. This is not the first time this has happened with this doe.Oh my gosh! Yeah, I've seen that with really tight udders too. But the problem is, this gal does it even when she's not tight! Her udder easily holds 2 quarts without leaking (and she doesn't usually leak because normally we have a routine). Lately she's been giving around 1 3/4 quarts--so about a cup less than capacity, and she was throwing milk all over the place! I've seen her leak when her udder was almost half empty if she gets worked up. It's like those teat muscles just relax and she can't hold it in--like incontinent except it's her udder and not her bladder! Was she tight? Some of my heavy milkers will stream first thing in the morning when they are so full...I get to milking quick to offer relief. If she is streaming even when pressure is off then I would suspect weak teat muscle ( I know there is a name for it lol..just can't think of it right off)
This can be a pain as means her teats don't close off and bacteria can be a problem leading to mastitis.
I had a bit of this happen when I trained someone to milk. The person did some bumping before having the bucket ready and it started dripping (but not running out like yours). It must be they let down when the right stimuli are present. Kind of like when you come in the door at home and suddenly REALLY have to pee, and some people can't hold it.It was before I even washed her udder.
