Dry scaly skin

539 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  MadHouse
I have been having an issue with a few of my goats having dry, flaky skin and I am also having trouble getting weight on them
I am in CT, so I am thinking zinc deficiency. They were all treated for lice a few weeks ago, since we did see some coming out of Winter. The does are fed a mixture of Blue Seal Dairy goat, Dynasty XTPro, BOSS and Chaffhaye. They have free choice Sweetliz meat maker minerals and my goats get 2nd cut hay
I am going to see if I can upload a picture. I am sending fecal in, too
But we did pulled fecal already and only had to treat one doe..and she had no coat issues.

I think mites can cause scaly skin… they can’t be seen like lice. How are the legs? Or is it mostly on body?

Zinc, copper and selenium deficiency can cause that.

Thank you. I will hit them with Replamin. I was thinking of ordering ZinPro. But it is pricey. What do you guys use for Zinc supplementation?

What did you use to treat for lice, and when did you treat them?
Just wondering if the skin dried from that, maybe?
I had a doe lose a lot of hair after I accidentally overdosed her a little with BOSS pour on.

We used Cylence to treat for lice. And that was about 10 days ago

My doe that I was talking about had that excessive shedding for about two weeks.
