So I have a 20 day old bottle baby goat that has started to have the scours this is my first time bottle feeding I have her on save a kid milk replacer. I was wondering if I need to replace her milk with electrolytes for a day I currently have the manna pro goat electrolytes I get confused because on the back of the instructions of the electrolytes it says do in between feedings and then I have heard not to mix milk and electrolytes what do I do

@happybleats found a study on why not to mix milk and electrolytes a few weeks ago.

The milk replacer is probably why it is having scours. If her scours are really bad, give electrolytes for about a day. Then switch over to whole cows milk (put a pinch of baking soda in the first bottle of milk)

Silly question but will the electrolytes keep her full like the milk would

If you bottle baby is 20 days old. I would also start a cocci prevention. 3 weeks old is when that usually strikes with diarrhea.
The electrolytes will keep them satisfied for a day. Then go to whole milk the following day.

Change to store bought whole milk slowly.

Get a fecal for worms and cocci.

Ok so I started my goat back on one ounce of whole milk and the other the replacer to slowly introduce the whole milk to her after having done 24 hours of electrolytes and she still has the poops should I done electrolytes longer? I wouldn’t think it would be coccidia because she hadn’t been outside they stay in a pen in my garage because of the weather with clean bedding and hay and water supplied. So should I start her back on electrolytes ?

You do electrolytes for one day. Then you give whole milk. Starting the replacer back up was probably the problem.

You can give her Milk of Magnesia. How big is she? Mine were 10 lbs. They got 5cc in a syringe( no needle) orally fir 2 to 3 days every 4 hours between feedings. This will calm their tummy from the food changes and get them back on track.

I have a pygmy and Oberhasli goat one weighs 6 lbs and the other 11.4 I started them back on electrolytes today and I guess start them on whole milk tomorrow makes me nervous starting on a new milk instead of slowly working it in is that an ok thing to do if I do the match correctly I am to give my 6 lb goat 3 ounces every 6 hours to spread it out 4 feedings a day and my 11 lb goat I give 51/2 every six hours that just seems like not enough but that may be where I’m going wrong I think they need more when they probably really don’t
The whole point of the electrolytes is to be able to just switch. You can slowly switch replacer to whole milk if kids aren't having a problem. But now that you have done the electrolytes, just do whole milk.
