Is bitter orange the same thing as orange essential oils? I see all sorts of plain orange, but almost no bitter orange. I need it in at least an ounce bottle, since I have a large herd.

Thanks!

Keep in mind, the success of the wild orange is using quality. Make sure your source is good.
A 15 ml bottle of wild orange holds about 250 drops of essential oils. So it can be effective part of a weekly program pretty inexpensively. 2 bottles would equal 1 oz.

I am getting the same EO I have used for several years, so yes, I trust it. It has worked for me all this time, though I know there are a lot of weak and fake ones out there. Good advice, forewarned is forearmed.

I was curious if all the orange EO had the same effect on worms? I see bitter, sweet, wild, blood and one other, I forgot the name but it was a country. And, is orange peels another way to give it to them? I've been cutting them up and adding them to their warm beet pulp mash for years because they really like it, though they won't eat the peels or fruit plain. Brats.

I've been using the bitter orange along with the chemical dewormer when needed, and I feed oregano in their grain mix, as they like that much better than the oregano EO. I use the oregano more for disease prevention, but I know it also repels worms. Because of the weather being warmer than usual, my goats are having a bout of barber pole worms.

You know..someone else asked about the different orange eos...I don't remember the outcome of that conversation. Might be in my thread on this subject. ??

I use sweet orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis), and I feel like that was the specific one I was told to use for goats, but I can’t remember where I learned about it! I’m interested to hear more about this too.

I’ve not used the EO’s yet, but have had a lot of success with orange peels. I use mandarins as well as navel and my herd has stayed worm free.
I haven’t taken a fecal yet this spring, but it’s been cooler still, so I’ll probably wait till April/May to have a fecal to check my efficacy of my peels.

my goats don’t care for them fresh, but can’t get enough of them if they’re dried and crunchy 😊

So I believe.. naval oranges are a type of sweet orange? So Citrus sinensis again, and sweet oranges actually originated from a cross of mandarin oranges and pomelos to begin with? So then sweet oranges are looking good if those peels are working for you! And I’m using the oil with good results. I’m super curious what’s different about bitter orange.

I either get them from Amazon or my local health food store.

I did a little more research about bitter orange (Citrus aurantium). I guess that instead of bitter orange oil you may find Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) instead, because the plant is likely a cross between bitter orange and lemon. I’m not finding bitter orange oil sold in the places I checked, but Bergamot is very common, so maybe that would be another option instead of bitter orange. I did find an article that explains the differences between them.

They do say that Bergamot had been used traditionally for parasitic infections. Has anyone tried Bergamot for their goats?
