I couldn't find this, although I remember fasting the goats last year before worming - - before worming is it best to let the goats fast first? if so, how long? and then how long after giving the wormer do I wait to feed?
Planning on using Valbazen tomorrow as fecals for barber pole worm are high.

I have never heard of fasting. Sounds odd to me. We just worm them and it works well without a fast.

Many yrs ago the vet said to fast them & I think it was valbezan but I don't recall for how long, maybe 4hrs before & 4 hrs after.

As far as I know, you don't need to fast them. I never have.

No I agree don't need to. Make sure you do a fecal before you deworm.

I've actually read a couple of articles that said withholding feed for 12 hours prior to worming increases the effectiveness of the benzimidazole wormers. Here is one of them.

When I deworm myhorses I just feed it first since theyve had a couple hours without food. Just easier to get them to eat it.

Thanks for all the replies...I had done a fecal, and my worst goat was approx 200 eggs per slide (we do our own; saline flotation method). I fed them this morning before work, and since they hadn't eaten, just decided to go ahead with worming them when I got home this afternoon, before feeding them. I will wait a few hours and feed. Sorta worked out that way to fast them due to my schedule, so see what happens. To be very honest, worms scare me more than any other "goat thing"...
