So glad that I found what looks what used to be goatweb.com

Anyhow, I'm wondering about my doe. She was born in March 2007. We hope to breed in late summer/fall of 2008.

Will she go into heat before that? Will I know when she does? I'm not sure what to expect. We visit the goats every afternoon, as they are part of the family.

She shares a pasture with her wether cousin, so no risk of mating.

What should I expect?

Hi and welcome! If I am not badly mistaken I believe they can come in heat as early as 3 months and then if not successfully bred they will come back into heat every 21 days (someone can correct me if I am wrong). Sometimes when they come in heat you will notice a bloody kind of discharge usually visible on their tail.. but not all Does do this. I am sure someone else can pitch in with some opinions as well :D and once again, Welcome!

yup she will go into heat before then.

Red in the rear, calling, off feed, discharge, wagging tail (flagging), mounting any other does or wethers - a doe in heat can show any number of these signs.

As Admin I want to add here that this is not goatweb but another forum started by me to have a place to keep in touch with people I met on goatweb and for other members of that forum to keep in touch while goatweb is in cyber space.

We did have some members stating that goatweb should be up and running tomorrow.

She will go into heat this fall likely, if she hasn't gone yet this year.

Some goats are pretty quiet about their cycles too...so even though most will be obvious, there is the occasional doe that will be fairly non-chalant about the whole deal, and POOF surprise you have random babies!!!

Just thought I would add that in addition to the signs that everyone else gave!!!
