    need advice from anyone. spouse wants to use powered lime on the floor of the goat pen. I have a kid 4 weeks old. I told him no.. I use baking soda before I lay new straw. here in Michigan we have been having rain and snow then melting. please help with the lime conflict I have.

    Why wouldn't you use it?

    If it is barn lime, then you should be ok.

    I put down barn lime/agricultural lime as well. I kick the goats out spread it, then cover it, then let them back in.

    thanks to u all, I guess I was thinking about it getting on them and understand that it will burn the hooves and skin. I really don't want any harm to come to any of them...what do u think?

    Many, many people use barn lime without problems. It's not the same as the lime you're thinking about.

    Fertilizing lime will burn them. Barn lime will not. Just make sure you have the right lime.
