future 4-h project

my kids (human kids) want to do goats- pygmy goats in 4-H next year. we live in Aurora Colorado or Arapahoe county in colorado. and I'm having a hard time finding rules and regulations on keeping goats in the backyard. we have a little over an acre size backyard so we do have the space for it but just in case some of the newer neighbors call us in I want to have are butts covered.

I was also looking into getting the future goats certified as therapy animals. I run a daycare so they need to be well groomed and well-mannered anyway. so if that helps with rules and regulations that's a plus too.

thanks for any insider info

What is your property zoned? Most places need to be zoned agriculture to have goats. Call your local zoning.

With pygmy's, they are shown in "exotics" for 4H, so like your kids could be showing against a llama for example.. they aren't considered dairy.

I might try to find babies if I were you....bottle babies might be best. With buying adults you always have to take in to consideration that their old owners may have taught them bad habits, you don't know if they've been mistreated, and a lot of times they won't be super friendly. If you start with babies you can get them used to you and friendly and you don't have to worry about bad habits from previous homes.
