Goat Crust

Hello all,
So we've been having a nice wet cold winter. Clyde developed a white crust on parts of his body, I deemed it mites. Did some invermectin in the tube, dusted him and upped his Garlic. Also a nutri drench. So he is quite normal. Ive been waiting to sort of scrap alot of the crust off due to the weather weve had.

I spray him with the blue dye lol..gosh that stuff stains instantly. But hes over all fine.

Im am wondering if he could be zinc / copper deficient. I wonder if the crust and such could also be attributed to minerals being low. Other than that he is quite normal lol.

and HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!!

Goats can get a fungus- I have had some luck with horse stuff for Rain Rot. I don't remember the name of it,
Tractor Supply sells it, its a fungicide for horses.

Try MTG. That works well on some things.

Does the crust feel thick and hard? Has he had an ivermectin shot? If not then I would give him one. I think for mite treatment it is one ivermectin shot (dosage: 1 cc per 40 lbs) per week for 3 weeks. I would also apply NuStock to the scabby area, directions are on the tube.

What loose minerals does he have available and when was he last copper bolused? I would probably also start him on Replamin Plus every day for a week, then give once a week after that.

Awesome so loper minerals are the bucket style an blocks. Tsc. Copper bolus is on order. The crust is hard but can flake. I fiured he'd need the shot vs the paste. So I got the nustock. Thanks for the info and attention. :)

Do you mean he has loose minerals (they are sand consistency), or a mineral salt block?
Mineral salt block brown in color.. I probably need to change it up.

Yep, goats need loose minerals, they can't get enough from a block. We use Purina goat mineral, but Purina Wind and Rain Storm is another good one (it can be used as a goat mineral, we have it out for our cow and the goats share it even though they also have goat mineral).

Loose minerals need to be free choice, so he can eat as much as he wants. :)
