Goat not doing well!!!!!

617 Views 13 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  toth boer goats
Hey y’all! I need some help! I’m worried about my goat Lady Jane. This evening I noticed that she was behaving very weird compared to her being normal. She just stands with her head lowered and doesn’t move much, she stretches quite a bit which makes me think she’s uncomfortable, she paws at the ground for a bit then lies down. I need help!!!!! My sister and I gave her some Probiotic paste. Her tail is held in a funny position. I don’t want anything to happen to her!!!!!

And I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I did get a new puppy to guard her and the other goats.

What's her temperature? Is she pregnant?

Is she bred? Has she been with a buck? What's her temperature and her FAMANCHA score?
Sounds like either a rumen thing or she's in labor? Definitely give probiotics. B-12 shots won't hurt, if you can, put her up in a stall or something by herself with water, hay, no grains. This is so you can monitor her better without other goats interrupting.

Definitely keep an eye on her temperature.

Has she had a fecal recently? Is she pooping and peeing?

Did you just put the puppy in with the goats? How old and large is the puppy?
@TheChewyCorner. How are things. We need more info to help.
We do need more info.

Temp?
Pregnant, due date?
Any drooling?
No drooling at all. I gave her probiotics and some electrolytes. After that she has been doing better. She is pregnant but isn’t due until November. The puppy is only a little over 2 1/2 months old.

Yes, I’ve had the puppy in there for about a week or 2 now.

Sounds like it may be her rumen.
Continue probiotics and give fortified vit b complex SQ for a few days.
6 cc’s per 100lbs.

You can also give her a dark beer (pour into a bowl for a cpl hours so it is room temp and flat) and that should help her rumen out.
Good luck! 🍀
